The Length of Basketball Season

I would like your input regarding the length of the basketball season for the PACC. At a recent Regional Principal's Meeting the topic came up. In general most of the principals were in favor of shortening the PACC schedule. What are your thoughts and comments?

The length of the season is too long. I am especially frustrated by the number of tournaments and the tournaments over the holidays, not to mention the Sunday games. I realize that tournaments are the way the schools make money, but there are just too many. That just adds to an already busy schedule of regular games. It was my understanding that each team usually only enters 3 tournaments. That is fine, but you usually have 3 games in each tournament. A solution would be to only have the same specific tournaments for each grade, each year and to rotate the location. That way each school has the same opportunity to make cash. I am glad the principals are at least considering the idea. If I can ask, what prompted the discussion with the principals, and what if any is the general consensus of opinions from them?

Our family LOVES the basketball season! It's great, cheap family fun that supports St. Mark's and otr other Catholic schools. The tournaments can make for a busy weekend but that's all a part of it. Is the length of our basketball season any longer than other leagues in the Peoria area? I think it's fine the way it is.

I think the basketball season should be even longer and fuller than it already is. Basketball games are good cheap family fun and good for the kids. A long, full season is also important to give our kids the skills and experience to excel in basketball for high school /college.

The discussion was initially prompted when principal's compared the PACC season to those schools that play the traditional shorter IESA schedule. Other issues revolved around the short volleyball season as well.

I really don't have a problem with he length of the season (says the mom of a 2nd grader), but i do have a problem with the changes in the schedules.

Being a concession coordinator has a lot of stress and angst that goes along with the position :) OK not really, but when I am scheduling people to work the games, they do so based on their children's schedules. When there is a change last minute in the schedules (as there is this weekend), it makes it harder on everyone, and we are scrambling at the last minute.

I have to agree about the schedule changes we've had this season for basketball being a bit of a hassle for various reasons.

Length of season tho-- keep it long and full!

the season is too long. It limits other activities that kids can and should be involved with and also limits other family activities. Tournaments over holidays should be banned as well.

I am a mother of 3 boys and they all love and look foward to the basketball season. As you could imagine trying to juggle 3 basket- ball teams and practices is a nightmare. Basketball games during the Christmas break was very sad for me personally, I wanted to visit my sister in Chicago but had to limit my time there and when we could go because of a tournament,I didn't want to dissappoint my son and his team mates with missing a game and shortening thier roster. I would vote for a shortened basketball season and no tournaments during breaks.
